Stockholm is the capital and the largest city of Sweden and constitutes the most populated urban area in Scandinavia. The vast majority of the city’s residents work in the service industry, which accounts for roughly 85% of job in Stockholm. The last decade has seen a significant number of jobs created in high-tech, with large multinational companies such as IBM, Ericsson and Electrolux establishing or expanding their presence in the city. Stockholm is Sweden’s financial centre with major banks and financial institutions, along with the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Additionally, about 45% of Swedish companies with more than 200 employees are headquartered in Stockholm. Industry growth areas include tourism as a result of the increase in Stockholm’s popularity as a destination city.
